We will focus on the dialogues on friendship and love, the Lysis, Symposium, and Phaedrus, with occasional forays into others where relevant. Students taking the course for three credits will write weekly reading responses and revisions to those responses. Undergraduates taking five credits, and graduate students, will also write a term paper. Undergraduates ought to have taken a previous course in Greek philosophy.

TEXT: Plato: Complete Works, John M. Cooper, ed.; and some secondary literature that will be provided in electronic form.
