- Spring 2017
Additional Details:
Philosophy is everywhere. Once you learn to spot it, you can find a philosophical view behind just about every statement anyone has ever made. This course will aim to (a) convince you that philosophy is omnipresent and to (b) help you develop the skills of finding, challenging, developing, and expressing philosophical views. Our topics will include relativism about truth, the reality of physical objects and human races, the roles of values in science, the objectivity of morality, and the nature of political justice. Our readings will range from long-dead philosophers like Plato to contemporary philosophers like Elizabeth Anderson.
TEXT: Theaetetus, Plato; M. Burnyeat and M.J. Levett, translators. The rest of the materials will be available through Canvas.
