Topic: Artistotle’s Ethics. We will read Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics in its entirety, but concentrating, as he does, on the relation between happiness and virtue, and on the nature of particular virtues. Where appropriate and where time permits, we will glance at related works of Aristotle’s as well as at some contemporary work in virtue ethics.
The only required text is the NE, the Ross/Brown translation will be in the bookstore; the Rowe and the Crisp translations are also fine. Secondary literature will be provided digitally.
TEXT: Nicomachean Ethics, Artistotle, Lesley Brown, ed. and David Ross, translator.
