- Autumn 2019
Additional Details:
This is an advanced course in normative ethics. We will begin by reviewing the important varieties of moral theory in their contemporary form, and looking at some well-known critical pieces along the way. We will then turn to related questions about how we respond to and interact with each other as moral agents. Finally, we’ll end, after glancing at the nature of practical rationality and briefly considering some questions about relativism and pluralism, by thinking about the nature of moral theory itself.
Undergraduates will be asked to write two short (2000-2500 word) papers, some frequent but sporadic in-class writing assignments (otherwise known as pop quizzes), and take a final exam. For graduates a term paper will substitute for the two short papers.
TEXT: No Textbook Required - All class readings will be provided in electronic form.
