The department will be celebrating two retiring faculty members, Professors Lynn Hankinson Nelson and Ronald Moore, on Wednesday, May 11th from 4:30 to 7:00 PM at the UW Club.

Professor Lynn Hankinson Nelson received her PhD in philosophy from Temple University in 1987. Before joining the University of Washington, she was at the University of Missouri, and has held visiting appointments at Swarthmore College, the University of Pennsylvania, Arizona State University (Biology and Society Program in the School of Life Sciences), and the University of Arizona Medical School in Phoenix (where she co-taught history and philosophy of medicine). Lynn joined the UW Department of Philosophy in 2002.

Professor Ronald Moore received his bachelor's degree from Stanford University, and his PhD from Columbia University. He did post-doctoral study at Harvard Law School as a Liberal Arts Fellow. Previous to his appointment at the UW, he taught at the University of Hawaii. He has chaired the UW Faculty Senate, has served on the UW Medical Center Board of Directors, and has directed the UW Center for the Humanities. Ron joined the UW philosophy department in 1979.

We hope you will be able to join us to celebrate Lynn and Ron as we send them off to retirement with a great party!  If you are unable to join us and would like to send well-wishes to Ron and Lynn please email them to Kate Goldyn at kgoldyn@uw.edu.

Please consider making a gift in Ron or Lynn's honor to the Friends of Philosophy Fund.
