Professor Arthur Fine's contributions to the field of Philosophy of Science were celebrated at this year's meeting of the Pacific APA. Colleagues, students, and former students of Arthur's gathered to celebrate his work with a symposium and reception, which honored the 25thanniversary of his book, The Shaky Game: Einstein Realism and the Quantum Theory.

The tri-campus Research Cluster on Human Interactions and Normative Innovation (HI-NORM) held an international conference this May 11th and 12th titled "Cosmopolitan Rights and Responsibilities." The two day conference had two sessions each day which covered topics such as: "Cosmopolitan Encounters, Are There Cosmopolitan Responsibilities?", "How Should We Understand Cosmopolitan Responsibility?" and "Cosmopolitan Responsibility: Global Answer to Global Problems". The 5th annual Rabinowitz Symposium in medical ethics was held Friday, April 13, on the topic "Disordering Personalities? Psychiatric Diagnosis and Moral Responsibility." The first talk, by philosophy professor Nancy Potter, University of Louisville, focused on oppositional defiant disorder, with discussion of radicalized attributions of defiance in the school system, concerns about motivations for diagnosis and treatment, and the possibility of a virtue of defiance. The Annual American Philosophical Association (APA) Pacific Division held its annual meeting in Seattle on April 4 - 7, and the UW Department of Philosophy was significantly represented throughout the conference. The meeting highlights included Professor Alison Wylie's Presidential Address: "Feminist Philosophy of Science: Standpoint Matters," which will be published in the Proceedings of the APA. HuskyFest 2012 celebrated the 150th anniversary of the University of Washington. UW opened its doors to the community with a campus-wide festival that included music, tours, exhibits, lectures and more. The Department of Philosophy contributed by having a series of fascinating talks. In celebration of the University of Washington College of Arts and Sciences' 150th anniversary, the College selected 150 accomplished alumni to receive a Timeless Award.
